YB Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen

Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching

Dr Kevin Yii received his Medical Degree (MD) from Volgograd State Medical University, Russia and LLB from the University of London. He is currently working on his Final thesis for LLM Masters in Medical Law. On the political side, he is the special assistant to YB Chong Chieng Jen and parliamentary researcher for YB Julian Tan.

He held position as the Director of Malaysian Medical Fellowship, a non-profit organization that connects medical students, healthcare professionals, and volunteers for good and positive influence, through contribution of time and talent that will result in positive outcome across Malaysia and beyond.

He has personally been on multiple Humanitarian Missions in Asian countries including Myanmar, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. Besides, he was also part of the Medical Relief team to the Philippines during Typhoon Hyan, to Kathmandu, Nepal after earthquake and Indonesia after natural disasters striked.

His heart for the people is also shown through the multiple initiatives he is involved in including initiatives with the homeless, sex workers and lower socio-economic groups. He went into politics after 8 years of humanitarian work, where he realised that good deeds alone cannot change a broken system. Better policies were needed.

“Healthcare and education issues are among my issues of focus but I also want to empower young people. To see more young people engaged in the political process, in the political conversation and in the policy-making process,” he said, adding that his focus now is to serve both Bandar Kuching and Stampin constituencies. As stated in his article in Malaysian Insight.
