Dr. Lee Yew Fong



Former Principal Assistant Director of Health at the Penang State Health Department

Dr Lee is currently the only Malaysian pursuing a PhD in global health at University of Geneva, Switzerland, and the former Principal Assistant Director of Health at the Penang State Health Department, who specializes in Health Management and was awarded the Excellent Leadership Award by the Penang State Health Department, Ministry of Health in 2011. During the Summit, she will be joining the Director General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, and Dean of Faculty of Medicine, and Patron to our Summit, Prof. Dr. Adeeba Kamarulzaman in a panel discussion discussing global challenges affecting Malaysian healthcare today.

She has special interest in Occupational Health and sustainable patient safety programs, of which she is the current Liaison Officer between the WHO collaborating centre for patient safety at Geneva & Malaysia for the Clean Care is Safer Care initiatives, and is the only validated HH auditor & trainer certified by WHO.

Dr. Lee obtained Masters in Health Management in Sydney, and is a Occupational Health Doctor. She is also the first Doctor in the Ministry of Health Malaysia to be awarded the 2018 Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) International Ambassadors program.

Aside from that, she is an alumni of the Talent Grooming Program of MOH Malaysia, who’s objective is to to enhance the process of building leadership capability and inculcate other qualities among potential Technical Healthcare Professionals- improving the health system performance and the health status of the population through effective healthcare leadership.

Dr. Lee was the chairperson for the Women Empowerment Seminar by the longest standing women politician in Malaysia, Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz. She was the spokeswomen for the Malaysia Medical Association where she appeared on National Television, Astro Awani speaking on gender equality. She is also an individual member of the International Women’s Medical Association based in Canada.

Dr Lee has been selected as an ‘Alternate Fellow’ for U.S. President Barack Obama’s signature program, the Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) fellowship program, to strengthen leadership development and networking in Southeast Asia. She also has been nominated for the UNESCO -TWAS prize award in honour of individual scientist from developing countries in recognition of an outstanding contribution to scientific knowledge, and for a Community Contributory Award by the Implementation and Coordination Unit, Malaysia Prime Ministry’s Office, Penang, Malaysia.
