With an education in genetics and public health policy, Mr Azrul has worked as a development communications and programme specialist for more than 18 years. He has extensive experience working on issues related to social welfare, gender healthcare and reproductive health issues including HIV and AIDS, gender based violence, and humanitarian assistance. He also helps develop social responsibility strategies for the private sector.

Mr Azrul’s previous position was as the Deputy Head of the RYTHM Foundation, the CSR arm for the QI Group of Companies based in Malaysia.

Before this, he was with the International Planned Parenthood Federation working to ensure access to reproductive health services in humanitarian and emergency responses.

Prior to that, Mr Azrul was with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the United Nations HIV/AIDS Coordinator for Malaysia and handling national communications for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

He has also been a technical consultant for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Malaysian AIDS Council (MAC).

He is a writer and columnist with two Malaysian publications, the Malay Mail Online and the China Press.
